What is a Root Canal Treatment (RCT) – And Why Do You Need It?

Most people assume that root canal treatment is only done when a tooth has deep decay (caries). While that’s a common reason, it’s not the only one.

You might need a root canal if:

  • Your tooth is cracked or fractured, allowing bacteria to reach the pulp

  • You've had multiple dental procedures on the same tooth

  • There's deep gum infection spreading to the root

  • The tooth has trauma or injury, even without visible damage

  • There's pain or swelling from an infection deep inside the tooth

In all these cases, the inner pulp of the tooth gets inflamed or infected. A root canal helps save the natural tooth by removing the infection and sealing the root.

How Much Does It Cost?

At Crown’d Dental Clinic, root canal treatment typically costs between ₹4,500 to ₹10,000, depending on:

  • The tooth involved (front or back)

  • Complexity of the root canals

  • Number of visits required

  • Materials used

A crown (cap) is usually recommended after RCT to protect the tooth, which may cost an additional ₹4,000 to ₹15,000 based on the type.

How to Prepare for Your Root Canal Appointment
  • Eat a light meal before your visit—you’ll be numb for a while afterwards

  • Take any prescribed medication if advised beforehand

  • Plan to rest after the procedure, especially if it’s your first session

  • Stay hydrated and avoid smoking or alcohol

  • Share your full medical history so we can plan safely, especially if you have health conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure

Who Will Do the Treatment?

Your root canal treatment will be performed by Dr. Mamtha Kumaraswamy, a specialist in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics. With over 8 years of experience and advanced training in root canal therapy, we focus on pain-free, precise, and comfortable care.

At Crown’d, you're not being treated by a generalist—your tooth is in the hands of a root canal expert.

What to Expect After the Root Canal
  • Numbness for a few hours post-treatment is normal.

  • Mild tenderness or discomfort for 2–3 days may occur—this is temporary.

  • You’ll be advised to avoid chewing on that side until a crown is placed.

  • Antibiotics or painkillers may be prescribed if necessary.

  • Once the crown is fixed, your tooth will be fully functional again.

Root canal treatment is a tooth-saving procedure, and with proper care, your treated tooth can last as long as your natural ones.
